The 54th Hochi Ayu Fishing Championship was held on August 24th at Kamikatsura River in Kyoto. The current championship, Ozawa Tsuyoshi, also known as the unrivaled Ayu Fishing Champion, was defending his title for the third time. His challenger was Sakamoto, who had won the Hochi Owner's Cup at the Arida River. It was a closely matched battle, with neither man giving an inch, until the third and final round.
