Restoring a 53-Year-Old Rear Suspension from a Mercedes R107 (part 2)

In this episode, I continue the rear suspension restoration on my Mercedes-Benz S107 restoration project. After fully disassembling the rear subframe in the previous part, it is time to clean, prepare and restore all the main components. I remove old rust, dirt and coating, sand the parts, degrease the metal, use both cabinet sandblasting and regular sandblasting, and then paint everything before starting the final assembly. The goal is to bring this over 50-year-old rear suspension assembly back to a clean, solid and reliable condition before it goes back on the car. This stage is not about simply making the parts look better. Proper surface preparation, cleaning and assembly are crucial if the restoration is supposed to last.
