Restoring a 53-Year-Old Mercedes R107 Rear Differential

Restoring a 53-year-old Mercedes R107 rear differential from a 1973 Mercedes-Benz 450 SL. This film is about bringing back an original classic Mercedes drivetrain component without destroying what still works. The differential was opened, cleaned, inspected, resealed and refinished, but not rebuilt just for the sake of replacing parts. The car had low mileage and the rear axle worked correctly, so the main idea was preservation: check the mechanical condition, verify the ring and pinion contact pattern, replace the old seals, clean the inside properly and restore the outside to match the level of the whole car restoration. The housing, cover, bolts and exterior finish were treated with the same attention as the mechanical parts. After cleaning, painting and final assembly, the differential no longer looks like a neglected 50-year-old unit, but like a properly restored part ready to return to a fully rebuilt Mercedes R107. #mercedes #restoration #carrestoration #mercedesbenz #classiccars #classiccarrestoration #mercedessl #mercedesr107 #r107 #differential 00:00 Intro 00:25 Teardown 04:15 Prep & Paint 06:36 Reassembly 13:50 Final Result
