LEG 5 - We Flew Over Lake Eyre at 90% Full

We flew our homebuilt Sling TSi over Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre at 90% capacity — one of Australia's most extraordinary natural events. Then we spent the night underground in Coober Pedy. This is Leg 5 of our Big Lap of Australia. Lake Eyre has filled to this level just three times in the last 160 years. Flying over it in a light aircraft, looking down at that endless shimmer of silver-blue water in the middle of the outback... I wasn't prepared for how that was going to feel. Real ATC comms, URSA procedures, and some genuine traffic in the beltway thrown in for good measure. Then Coober Pedy. The whole town lives underground to escape 50°C summers. We explored the Old Timers Mine, visited The Breakaways, and found out exactly how opal fever gets into your blood. Plus our underground accommodation — genuinely one of the most unique places we've ever stayed. This is the Big Lap — 6 states, 11,500 km, 12 weeks.
