We Flew to the Most Remote Airport in Australia

Most people cross the Nullarbor in three days of driving. We crossed the Nullarbor Plain in a Experimental plane — and landed at Forrest, the most remote airport in Australia, sitting completely alone in the middle of the outback. This is the leg of our outback road trip where the scale of Australia really hits you: hundreds of kilometres of red desert in every direction, one tiny airstrip, and two people who call it home. What started as a flight across the Nullarbor turned into one of the best experiences of the whole trip. This is The Big Lap — our family flying our homebuilt Sling TSi right around Australia: 6 states, 11,500km, in a plane I built myself. From Coober Pedy across the desert to Forrest, this one was about the vastness of remote Australia — and the people who make its loneliest corners feel like home.
