ATOLE, premier programme d'éducation de l'attention à l'école | Jean-Philippe Lachaux | TEDxSaclay

Attention is something that can be learned... Almost everyone is now concerned about what they put into their body through their diet, but who really cares about what they put into their mind through their attention? Yet it is just as important to monitor what nourishes our body as what nourishes our mind, our "mental nutrition," because both determine who we are. Starting with a review of some basic neuroscience concepts, neuroscientist Jean-Philippe Lachaux explains why attention training has become essential in our hyper-connected society, and presents the first program of its kind, the ATOLE program (Learning to Be Attentive, at School), already used in hundreds of classrooms. Jean-Philippe Lachaux is a research director at INSERM and works at the Lyon Neuroscience Research Center. His work focuses on the neural mechanisms of attention and concentration, with a particular emphasis on answering the questions we all ask ourselves daily: Why are we so easily distracted? Does concentrating require effort? How does attention improve performance and learning? Beyond his research, he is actively working to promote the gentle mastery of attention as a value in our society, notably through ATOLE, a program for students to discover and develop their attention skills.
