Isle Of RUM - Bikepacking & Trekking - The Small Isles - Scotland Island Adventure

A fine late April & early May on the Small isles. https://www.rumbunkhouse.com/ https://www.calmac.co.uk/en-gb#/ After Bikepacking across from Fort William to Mallaig including an overnight stop in Morar via the fabulous silver sands beaches of Arisaig, I catch the first ferry out to Rum on the small isles a small archipelago located within the inner Hebrides. A smooth crossing in around 90 minutes- and then off to set up camp in a location close to Rum Bunkhouse, a fabulous spot adjacent to the waterside, although somewhat soft in places underfoot it was firm enough to camp. Once I had set up I then cycled out on the gravel & stone laden track out to Kilmory engaging with some red deer on route. I returned to the junction on the gravel track & decided to then ride down to Harris & the Mausoleum, I was gifted with some fine weather & incredible views, ultimately there are only 2 main locations you can cycle, yes probably a little more with a fully specked MTB but not a great deal more. Day 2 consisted of Trekking out through various routes from the otter bide to the nature trails & some high ridge hikes, much the same with the half day of day 3 before my ferry retired to take me to Canna. Rum is ultimately a nature reserve- Home to around 40 permanent residents, for the most part No cars / vehicles allowed so its hike or cycle only which makes for great freedom from unnecessary noise & emissions. Rum a fabulous Island of the inner Hebrides & definitely worth your time to explore.
