Using hills to prepare for a Marathon| Episode 15 - The Big C

When we’re looking for a solid long run that’s taxing without being too intense, we always turn to the hills. “Big C” is what we call our loop in the mountains just outside of Clonmel. I’ve been trying to get in a few good long runs up here while building my volume. Although it’s tough, it’s much easier on the mind than running loops around town. I’m currently in Font Romeu, getting in another couple of weeks at altitude after racing at the European Road Running Championships. I finished 41st, which I was fairly disappointed with. I felt a lack of aggression in the first half cost me a higher placing. The course was challenging—I made up most of my ground on the hills, but I struggled on some of the downhills, and a few sections were really slippery.
