Last day of Metro North's Waterbury Line - Major Upgrade Project - 7/2026

On July 19, 2026 the Metro North Waterbury Branch shut down so major upgrades can take place over the next 10 months. In this video we’ll take a look at the line’s condition on the last day of operations with some earlier footage from June 2026 mixed in. Much of the info in the video will be quoted from the State of Connecticut’s website “CTDOT in partnership with Metro-North Railroad is advancing improvements at all six Waterbury Branch Line stations through a combination of state and federal funding. These upgrades will enhance safety, comfort, and accessibility while strengthening each station’s role as a valued community asset, fostering civic pride and serving as welcoming gathering places for residents and visitors. All six stations are being upgraded between 2025-2028 at an estimated cost of $193 million”. Today stations along the line are small, low level, and arguably uninviting platforms that will soon have hi-level platforms and even waiting areas.
