First freight train in years! Newport & Narragansett Bay's antique freight cars - 7/15/2026

Back in the 1980's the last revenue freight trains ran over the Newport Secondary Rail Line and other than a one-off boat mast move a few years ago the line has not seen any freight moves. This means the last time a mixed fright consist traveled these tracks was decades ago. A train of period antique freight cars was even longer ago! Finally in July of 2026 the Newport & Narragansett Bay Railroad put together the string of freight cars on display on Pratt Siding in Middletown, RI, complete with a caboose! This video shows some switching and even some runbys of the equipment as it was being put together. All the cars in the consist are actively being restored or are planned to be refurbished so stay tuned for future updates on their progress!
