Audierea lui Ion Covalciuc, candidat la funcția de judecător al Curții Supreme de Justiție
Prosecutor Ion Covalciuc is running for the position of judge at the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) and is being evaluated by the Judges Evaluation Commission in accordance with Law no. 65/2023. The Commission invited him to a hearing, in the context of the evaluation process. The hearing took place in the plenary session of the Commission, in accordance with the legal procedures applicable to SCJ candidates. During the hearing, the members of the Commission asked additional questions regarding the preliminary findings regarding the candidate’s financial integrity. The household savings were examined, including financial means held in bank accounts and in cash, as well as aspects related to the population’s consumption expenditure (CCP), a statistical indicator used in financial evaluations. At the same time, the candidate provided explanations regarding possible financial discrepancies for the period 2014–2016 and answered questions regarding the potential failure to declare a loan to the National Integrity Authority, under the conditions provided for by law. At the request of the candidate, part of the hearing was held in closed session, which is not public.
