The Ateneo Mercantil of Valencia hosts another installment of the Tardes de LiterAteneo series, now in its 35th year, with a particularly moving and significant session. On January 31, 2016, Antonio Mayor Sánchez passed away. He was one of the most prominent voices in contemporary Valencian poetry and, above all, a person deeply loved by those who shared his passion for words. This edition will be dedicated to his memory under the title “Antonio Mayor Sánchez: The Man and the Poet,” in a gathering that will bring together friends, colleagues, and literature lovers to pay tribute to both his work and his human legacy. The session will feature the participation of his colleagues from El Limonero de Homero, the literary collective with whom Antonio Mayor shared his journey, concerns, and friendship for many years. The event will be presented by Pascual Casañ and organized by Vicente Bosch in collaboration with El Limonero de Homero. An afternoon to remember, share, and celebrate the life and work of a poet who left an indelible mark on literature and on those fortunate enough to have known him. About the speaker: Antonio Mayor Sánchez (Valencia, 1940–2026) was a poet deeply connected to Valencian cultural life and an active member of the El Limonero de Homero collective. His work, characterized by profound sensitivity and meticulous expression, is marked by an intimate and reflective perspective, where life experience, the passage of time, and restrained emotion converge. Throughout his career, he participated in numerous literary events and activities, establishing himself as a recognized voice within the local poetry scene. Beyond his work, those who knew him highlight his warmth, generosity, and unwavering commitment to literature and friendship.
