You should know that between 2014 and 2015 I lived in the city of Haifa for almost a year, during which I worked on my thesis at the propulsion laboratory of the Technion, the Israel Institute of Technology. It was a period that left a huge mark on me, not only academically but, above all, personally and culturally. This video starts precisely from that laboratory, which for nearly a year was my second home. During that time I discovered so many things: the hummus, the falafel, kosher cuisine, the various rules of the Jewish religion, especially how the Sabbath (Shabbat) is observed, and then of course Sunday—a different Sunday, the first working day of the week there, just like our Monday. I discovered a country full of contrasts: ultra-Orthodox believers, totally secularized youth, Muslims, Christians, Druze, and people from every part of the world. To me, Israel is like a living social experiment. Most of the time it seems anything is possible and people can coexist, but sooner or later one inevitably clashes with reality, with politics, with ideological interests that more often than not undermine peaceful coexistence. One thing that struck me deeply is that many Israelis openly and firmly criticize what happens in the occupied territories. Some even actively boycott the economy tied to the settlements—starting with the professor I had the pleasure to work with, an extraordinary and incredibly clear-minded person who helped me understand things beyond mere propaganda. Seeing what is happening now fills me with sadness and bitterness. I believe Israel is unique historically and culturally, yet it is heading in a dangerous direction, dragged down by a political class that risks its implosion. Let’s be clear: no valid pretext can even minimally justify what the Israeli government is doing, especially in terms of civilian casualties in the Gaza Strip. In the end, as always, it is ordinary people on both sides who suffer. It is a cycle of violence that spares no one and continually feeds itself. This video is therefore a small tribute to a chapter of my life that I carry in my heart, but above all a message of hope. Hope that one day these lands can truly become lands of peaceful coexistence among peoples. Maybe not tomorrow, but who knows—one day. Now, let’s get started. Enjoy the journey. Drive safe!
