Du Plessis: SA already has the technology to secure its borders

Milkor Vice President for Defence in Africa, Daniel Du Plessis, says South Africa does not need to look abroad for advanced border security solutions, arguing that locally developed surveillance technology is already being exported globally. He says the government should prioritise deploying home-grown capabilities, including AI-driven monitoring, facial recognition and long-range drones, to strengthen border security. His comments come after the Chairperson of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Migration, Mmamoloko Kubayi, announced a R10-billion investment to modernise South Africa's border infrastructure.
