Are Benzodiazepines Anti-Depressants?
I talk a lot about GABA boosters, traditionally known as benzodiazepines, BZDs, or "benzos," when I talk about treatment for anxiety disorders, like panic disorder and agoraphobia (fear of being in public due to anxiety and panic). So, how do we interpret a situation where a person with terrible depression gets better with a GABA booster, like Ativan, or Xanax, or Klonopin. We don't think of GABA boosters as anti-depressants. But if someone's depression improves dramatically after you start then on one, how do you interpret that. Are benzodiazepines anti-depressants? This video talk about that circumstance and give my thoughts on the subject. I hope it is helpful.
