Devotional – Psalm 9 | The Fate of the Wicked and the Hope of the Righteous Psalm 9 reminds us that God is a just Judge. The psalmist declares that the wicked, who reject God and deliberately live in rebellion against Him, are headed for perdition: “The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God” (Psalm 9:17). But the psalm does not end with a message of judgment. There is a glorious hope for those who trust in the Lord: “For the needy will not always be forgotten, nor will the hope of the afflicted ever perish” (Psalm 9:18). This truth echoes throughout Scripture: God never abandons His own. As the psalmist affirms elsewhere: “I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread” (Psalm 37:25). While the fate of those who reject God is condemnation, the righteous find refuge, hope, and salvation in the Lord. May this psalm lead us to live in fear, repentance, and faith in Christ, remembering that only in Him is there eternal life and security for the soul.
