Did the Gospel of John copy the Egerton Papyrus — or is it the other way around? A single Greek letter (υ vs. α) might hold the answer, and scholars are genuinely split. The Egerton Papyrus (sometimes called the Egerton Gospel or Papyrus Egerton 2) is a 2nd-century fragment that overlaps almost word-for-word with John chapter 5 — but with key differences.
