How To Train A Hydrangea Tree from a Bush // How to divide a hydrangea - Part 2 of 2
Hi everyone, My name is Tracy and I garden in Zone 4/5 in Toronto, Canada. You are watching my most recent video recorded on September 8, 2020. In this video, I will show you how I have successfully trained a PANICULATA BUSH INTO A TREE/STANDARD (also How to Divide a Hydrangea Paniculata). This is Part 2 of 2 videos that I'm sharing with you. Out of all the examples that I have shared with you, this is probably the most "invasive" method to attempt. It is important that you attempt to do this when day time temperatures in your zone are consistently in the LOW 20 degree Celsius (70 degrees Fahrenheit)...about 6 weeks or so before the 1st frost day in your garden zone. This low temperature is perfect for doing this as it encourages more root growth in order to get the roots to establish before the cold weather kicks in. Hopefully, the video made "some" sense to you and will help to encourage you to give "training a hydrangea bush to a tree" a try this fall. :-) Another very good time to do this would be in late winter or early spring when the leaf buds on the stems start to swell up (before the plant leafs out). Some of you may find this time period to be easier than the autumn season as the stems are more visible (leaves don’t get in the way + the temperatures are low & perfect for promoting root growth). I have done this during early spring found it to be very successful (if not greater success than autumn). Thank you so kindly for taking some of your precious time out of your day to watch my video.
