That's how they sell them, but if not, you can easily cut them. 1 small piece of onion (my sister told me it helps reduce the stickiness of the nopales) 120 grams of prepared pipián (sold at markets or street markets) 1 cup of water 1/4 of an onion, sliced 1 bunch of chopped cilantro Salt Tortillas or nixtamalized corn masa or nixtamalized corn flour for tortillas Asadero cheese, Oaxaca cheese, or Gouda cheese (if you're outside of Mexico) In a saucepan, bring enough water, a teaspoon of salt, and the small piece of onion to a boil. Then add the nopales and when the water returns to a boil, turn off the heat, stir, strain, rinse, and set aside. In a bowl, combine the pipián and the cup of water. Mix until completely dissolved and set aside. In a skillet, add a little oil and the sliced onion. When the onion is translucent, add the dissolved pipián (pumpkin seed sauce). Taste and check if it needs salt, mix, and carefully add the nopales (cactus pads). Mix and adjust the salt. Let it simmer for about 3 minutes, turn off the heat, add the cilantro, and cover.
