Leadership in an insecure world

This session offered a personal perspective on leading a national security department in an insecure world. Stephanie Foster, Secretary of Australia’s Department of Home Affairs, joined ASPI Executive Director Justin Bassi to discuss the foundations of strong departmental culture, legislation that recognises evolving threats, and effective industry partnerships. The conversation also examined how to approach an uncertain and complex future with confidence, and the importance of fostering passionate, innovative people within national security who embody a can-do culture. While we cannot predict every challenge, we can ensure the right people are prepared to face them. Exemplary leadership enables preparedness and agility, and positions Australia to lead globally in cyber security and countering foreign interference and terrorism.
