I’m Running for 12 Hours in 31°C Heat… Here’s the Plan

This weekend I’m taking on Hope12 — a 12-hour trail race around a 5-mile loop at the Hope Trail Festival. The goal? As many laps as possible before the clock runs out. The dream? 14 laps. 70 miles. The problem? The forecast is now showing 31°C, wall-to-wall sunshine, and the kind of conditions that can completely change an ultra. In this video, I talk through my full race-day strategy: pacing, nutrition, hydration, electrolytes, heat management, aid-station discipline, and the mental approach I’ll need if I’m going to survive 12 hours of running at Hope. I also look back at my previous experiences at Hope — from running the 36-hour team event, to reaching 100 miles in the 24-hour solo, to last year’s brutal 35°C race where I called it a day after 50 miles. This year is about putting all those lessons together. Can I survive Hope12 in the heat? Let’s find out. Thanks for watching — and until the next one, be the best you. 00:00 Can I Survive 12 Hours of Running? 01:53 What Hope Trail Festival Actually Is 03:50 My History With Hope 09:52 This Year’s Goal 12:24 The Engine 13:56 The Quad Problem 15:20 My Fuel Plan 18:05 Homemade Gels and Backup Food 19:57 Hydration and Electrolytes 21:47 The Heat Problem 26:50 The Aid Station Trap 28:22 The Mental Strategy 30:35 Plan A, Plan B and Plan C 32:21 What Could Go Wrong? 33:45 The Final Hours 35:20 Final Thoughts
