Biking Home from work - New Bike Infrastructure - July 9, 2026pm

The weather was not great that afternoon with torrential rain and lightning, but by the time I left the office it wasn't too bad. I went home the way I went to work to try to hit some of the same areas with the new bike infrastructe. First up was the new bi-directional bike lanes on Portland. They seem to work just as well during the PM rush as in the morning. As a bonus, there was a fire truck turning from Portland to Wellington and didn't seem to have any trouble. At Queen I decided to head up to Dundas. A couple of women were waiting to cross, but a driver blocked the crosswalk to try to make a right on red. They had the walk signal, but were confused. One asked the other, "is that for us, or not?" with an Australian access. I took Bathurst to College and College to Euclid. I've been hearing that the bike lanes and alternating one-ways on Palmerston were causing havoc on Euclid and Markham as drivers who would have used Palmerston are now forced to use those streets making things dangerous and congested and who knows what else. I was on Euclid before 6pm and it was basically empty. I took Euclid all the way up to Bloor and headed home from there. The sky was getting darker and there were a few raindrops as I went, but I didn't get too wet.
