It's a really good book and it really made a big impact on me, so I really wanted to talk about it with him. I thought a lot about what would come out of our conversation, what emotions I would feel, what would happen when everyone, the viewers, saw it, and how I should think about it, and I thought I'd share a lot of that, and although I'm not very good at putting it into words, I decided to request a discussion. We had a few exchanges, and I thought I'd film this video to help me sort things out in my head. In my clinical practice, patients sometimes bring up the topic of euthanasia. They sometimes say, "I want to die, please let me euthanize you, please write me a medical certificate so that I can euthanize you," but of course I refuse. I tell them, "You'll get better." Some patients understand, but others become dissatisfied or angry, and in their anger, they leave a 1-star review. It's hard to explain what kind of conversations take place in these situations, or how in-depth the discussions go, but that's what happens in clinical practice. But I'm ashamed to say that I don't know much about euthanasia myself. I've never focused on that subject, so as I continue this YouTube channel, I've already passed the stage of simply conveying textbook-like information. I think I've finished the stage of simply explaining things that any psychiatrist would know, and I'm now entering the next stage. In other words, I can have more in-depth discussions. I think this community, including the channel and its viewers, has reached that stage of maturity, and I'm thinking about gradually starting to host talk shows. That's how it all happened. I've received a few questions from Mami Kodama, so I'd like to answer them one by one. ■Answering Questions Q: As a psychiatrist, how did you receive my book? I'd like to answer both the first and second halves. The first half is about the discussion surrounding euthanasia. There were various incidents. Once euthanasia was legalized, it spread like a slippery slope. At first, it was only for those with severe symptoms or terminal cancer, but it has gradually expanded to include those with dementia, mental retardation, intellectual disabilities, and even developmental disorders and psychiatric illnesses. And the current situation is that it's hard to say that the rules are being strictly followed. Because it's something humans do, it can't be done 100% exactly as is, and the reality is that it has become somewhat routine and is neglected, which was really shocking. Learning what was happening, I feared the possibility and danger that Japan could become like that, and at the same time, it made me wonder what kind of country we are, with so many elderly and dementia patients and caregiver fatigue. I also thought about the dialogue, or perhaps conflict, between countries where euthanasia is legal and a society like Japan, where the elderly are partially kept alive by force and are integrated into the medical and economic systems. I can't really put it into words, but that's what I felt. The second half of the spee...
