North Norfolk Railway Little & Large Easter Weekend 04/04/26

Join me as we return to The North Norfolk Railway for the first time in 2026. NNR hosts the Easter Eggspress running from Mar 28 - Apr 12 2026. Due to resignalling works at Sheringham Station, locos aren't able to run round so three locomotives would be seen in operation with the beastly WD 2-10-0 90775 'The Royal Norfolk Regiment', the petite Hunslet 1589 'Newstead' The Lost Engine and BR Class 31 D5631. Locos would take turns topping and tailing to Sheringham with the loco on the back of the train departing from Sheringham running round to the back of the oncoming train at Weybourne before heading back to Sheringham as the rear loco thus becoming the lead loco for the next Sheringham departure. This process would then repeat for each service departing Sheringham. We head to all my favourite viewing spots starting at Sheringham and following the line up to Weybourne and beyond to the Kelling Heath Pedestrian Crossing. (Unfortunately my camera decided to not save the clip of Newstead charging up the hill which was pretty disappointing). We then head back via Kelling Heath Caravan Park, back towards Sheringham via the country park before catching the last service of the day pulling into Sheringham. One of our smaller tank engines, “Newstead”, is scheduled to be out on the line each day alongside powerful tender engine WD 90775 “The Royal Norfolk Regiment”. “Newstead” joined the railway’s steam fleet in 2025, having been hidden away for decades with most assuming she had been scrapped during the 1970s. 90775 was built for the Ministry of Supply in December 1943 and allocated for use in the Middle East, also working in Greece in 1945. In the summer of 1984 90775 was repatriated having arrived back in Ipswich Docks after 27 years in Greece. Our steam locomotives will be joined by a heritage diesel – Class 31, D5631 dating from 1960. During life on the mainline D5631 worked various routes across East Anglia, before being withdrawn in 2001 and purchased by the M&GN Society in 2003. Timetable When you’re done be sure to drop into Holt Station and spend some time in our Play Coach, complete with mini ticket office and children’s model railway. Our lovingly-restored trains will transport passengers on an 11 mile return journey between the delightful Victorian resort of Sheringham and the smart Georgian town of Holt. Make a day of it with our great value rover tickets that are valid for unlimited travel allowing you to hop on and off all day! We recommend booking in advance and passengers doing so receive a generous 15% discount on their fares.
