You can listen to it just before you go to sleep or if you find yourself awake during the night. The exercise is the gentlest of the Buteyko exercises and suitable for most people. It is one of the few Buteyko exercises which do not require any direct focus on (or changing of) the breath. This is a sign that CO2 is building up in your system which actually enables increased blood flow and oxygen delivery to your body and brain. So as best you can, try to resist any urges to take big breaths during the exercise and allow your breath to be soft and subtle. This relaxation is specifically designed to help reduce symptoms of stress, anxiety, brain fog, asthma and long covid. So this is something really positive that you can do to feel better in the short term and, by practising regularly, improve your health in the long term. For good quality sleep it is essential to sleep in a cool, airy room. So I strongly recommend turning off any heating in your bedroom while you sleep, and also either opening a window or door to ensure good quality air flow. For optimal sleep it’s also important to breathe through your nose if you can, so bring your lips together and allowing the body to switch to nasal breathing for the rest of the night.
