Why This Game Is Having a Moment Right Now Over the past few months, YouTube has been flooded with videos revisiting this forgotten gem, and with the FIFA World Cup 2026 going on right now, I thought it was the perfect time to pull out the old PS3 and boot this one up. Millions of people who grew up with it or completely missed it back in 2010 are booting up their old PS3s and Xbox 360s to answer one question. Was this actually the greatest football game ever made? After spending an hour with it again in 2026, I can honestly understand why people are saying that. What Made 2010 Special I remember the 2010 World Cup vividly. It was genuinely my favourite World Cup of all time. The atmosphere in South Africa, the Jabulani ball, the vuvuzelas, the drama. Everything about that tournament felt electric. And this game captured that spirit in a way that very few sports titles have ever managed. The game features all 199 national teams that took part in qualification, all 10 official licensed stadiums used in South Africa, and stadiums from each qualifying region. The national anthems, the packed stadiums, the fans covered in national colors, confetti cannons, streamers, and fireworks. Everything feels meaningful in a way that modern football games have somehow slowly moved away from. The Gameplay - Fun Over Realism Here is what I think makes this game genuinely special in 2026. Modern football games are obsessed with realism. Every animation has to be motion captured. Every pass has to mimic real life. And while that is technically impressive, somewhere along the way, football games forgot one very important thing. They are supposed to be fun. FIFA World Cup 2010 does not care about pretending to be a simulator. It wants every match to feel exciting. The AI is sharp and reactive. Players accelerate quickly, the ball moves with speed, and everything feels energetic. It is arcade football done almost perfectly. Not over the top but just enough to make every match entertaining from start to finish. Captain Your Country - The Mode That Was Ahead of Its Time One game mode I absolutely have to highlight is Captain Your Country. EA should bring this back immediately. You create a player and guide them through their international career. You need to impress the national team coach to earn a spot in the squad and eventually become the captain. Every performance matters. You play badly, and you drop out of the squad. You play well, and you eventually lift the World Cup. How Does It Look and Run on PS3 in 2026? It is a 16-year-old game, and it shows. I am playing on a 1080p monitor, and you can see some jagged edges and low-resolution textures. Player faces can look rough. The cutscenes target 30 FPS, and there are some stutters in those, though they are fairly negligible. But the moment the match kicks off, everything runs fluid and smooth at 60 FPS with no issues at all. And honestly, the jagged edges and the retro visuals stopped bothering me very quickly because the gameplay is so entertaining. The colorful crowds and vibrant stadium atmosphere have a charm that honestly feels more alive than a lot of what you see in modern football titles. Should You Play It? Absolutely. If you have a PS3 sitting in a corner somewhere, pull it out and give this game another look. It is a genuine reminder of what football games used to feel like at their best. Fun, fast, and full of personality. With the real World Cup happening right now, there has never been a better time to revisit this one.
