Making a Cup of Tea using a Petter A1 Stationary Engine Generator
Following a previous video featuring my vintage Petter A1 stationary engine and home made "Bitsa" generator, one of my regular viewers asked the question "can I use it to brew a cup of tea?". Good question - I got hold of a low wattage travel kettle and did some calculations - theoretically it should work but it was definitely pushing the limits of my generator/lighting set. Total time from turning the kettle on to it boiling was 4 minutes 23 seconds - this would have been a bit quicker if the inverter hadn't been cutting out but probably not that much quicker - the inverter started cutting out at the three minute mark, each time it cut out the voltage rose again so the inverter restarted - it was on for about 50% of the time from then on so the last 1 minute 23 seconds was on about a 50% duty cycle. You can see the previous video here: • Vintage Engine - Petter A1 Stationary Engi... I had pre-planned to cut to some other clips during the heating of the water to emphasize how long it took to boil the kettle. I also thought it would be funny to have a change of clothes so it looked like I'd had the time to change - in the end I just threw on a different shirt out of sight of the camera - rather than being funny it just looked like a bad continuity error!!!
