Do Not Leave Them Behind: Protecting Hope for Congolese Refugee Youth in Burundi

Ten months after the crisis in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo forced tens of thousands to flee for their lives, Burundi continues to shoulder a major humanitarian responsibility, hosting more than 106,000 refugees and asylum seekers alongside 92,000 internally displaced persons. Thousands still remain in urgent need of safety and protection. At Musenyi refugee camp, home to 17,500 refugees, women and young people are among the most affected 23% are women of reproductive age, with over 500 pregnancies and nearly 3,800 adolescent girls and boys. Limited resources are placing immense strain on humanitarian response efforts, leaving many young people feeling forgotten and without hope. The message is clear: the world must not abandon these young people.
