Empowering Refugees and Host Communities Through Better Health Services | #2gether4SRHR

Investing in community health workers means investing in healthier and more resilient communities. Through the #2gether4SRHR programme, funded by the Kingdom of Sweden and implemented by ‪@unfpabi‬, UNAIDS Burundi, ‪@UNICEFBurundi‬ and WHO Burundi in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health, 128 community health workers from the Musenyi refugee site and surrounding host communities were trained on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), HIV prevention, family planning, self-care, and the prevention of gender-based violence. The initiative also supported community outreach and media engagement to raise awareness on maternal health, HIV prevention, family planning, self-care, and the fight against discrimination and violence. To strengthen the quality of healthcare services, health facilities in Musenyi, Gihofi and Giharo received essential medical supplies and equipment to better manage obstetric and neonatal complications and improve care for women and newborns. Together, with support from the Kingdom of Sweden, we are helping reduce preventable maternal deaths, prevent new HIV and STI infections, combat gender-based violence, and ensure that no one is left behind. #unfpa #unfpaburundi #healthforall #srhr #selfcare #stopgbv #refugees #burundi #sweden #icpd30 #cpd9bdi
