This beautiful journey spans approximately 170 kilometers, taking you through a diverse landscape of rolling hills, cultivated fields, and charming rural towns. Departing from Ljubljana Railway Station, the country’s central rail hub, we head northeast toward the Hungarian border. The route follows Ljubljana–Dobova railway , Zidani Most– Šentilj railway and the fully modernized Pragersko–Hodoš railway, a key corridor in Slovenia’s rail network. Originally built in the early 20th century, the line underwent a major upgrade completed in 2016, which included electrification, track reconstruction for speeds of up to 160 km/h, and the renovation of stations all along the line. As we leave the capital behind, the urban landscape gradually gives way to peaceful countryside. Renovated stations dot the route, and modern railway infrastructure blends seamlessly with traditional villages and scenic farmland, offering a unique view of eastern Slovenia’s quiet charm. Approaching Hodoš, the terrain becomes more open and gently undulating, framed by the distant hills of Prekmurje. Hodoš station itself—opened in 1907—remains a modest but important point of connection between Slovenia and Hungary, marking the only active rail crossing between the two countries.
