In several olive groves, a slight advance in stone lignification is observed, favored by the high temperatures of recent weeks. The drupe is physiologically vulnerable, the pulp is still tender, and the vascular tissues are not fully stabilized. Phytosanitary situation Olive tree moth: In olive groves treated according to the instructions, weekly monitoring confirms a marked decline in the adult population. Those who have not yet performed the treatment or are considering a second treatment can still intervene. The use of Spinetoram is recommended, for single use only. In organic farming, Bacillus thuringiensis, natural pyrethrins, or azadirachtin remain available. Brown marmorated stink bug: Presence is limited, with adults and a few nymphs. High daytime temperatures reduce the insect's activity, but not its ability to perform feeding bites during the cooler hours. The drupe, before the stone hardens, is particularly sensitive: even a few bites can cause fruit drop. If confirmed, treatment with deltamethrin is recommended, which is also effective against the peppercorn moth and the margarine moth. Peppercorn scale: Over 90% of eggs have hatched. Treatment with mineral oil or potassium salts of fatty acids (soft soaps) is possible, which are more effective on mobile juvenile stages. Cottony mealybug: Isolated presences; treatments against the peppercorn scale or the olive moth help contain its population. Olive fly: Adult captures are limited, but this is the right time to install mass-trapping traps; tasting bites are already being observed in table olive groves. The fly is a temperature-dependent insect: high temperatures limit daytime activity but do not eliminate the adult population, which continues to mature if nights remain cool. This makes it strategic to initiate control measures before the expected drop in temperatures in July, when the first summer generation could become active rapidly. Peacock spot: In olive groves with confirmed infections, treatment with copper oxychloride, copper hydroxide, or pyraclostrobin is possible, depending on the phenological stage and climatic conditions. Managing grassy areas It is recommended to keep the grass cover no higher than 25 cm, cutting with equipment that shreds or chops the grass, leaving it in place to reduce evaporation and protect the soil. Note on fertilization (brief and non-invasive) During this phase, any foliar applications must be light and targeted, favoring microelements and rapidly assimilated organic formulations, avoiding concentrated mixtures during the hottest hours of the day.
