黒松の芽切り ~全芽切りだけではない枝づくりの見極め~

In this episode of WABI CHANNEL, we introduce the decandling process for Japanese black pine. Using two Japanese black pines at different stages of refinement, we look at how decandling should be approached. For a tree whose branch structure is already well developed, full decandling can be applied. For a tree whose branches still need more strength, it is important to judge which areas should be left to grow. Even when decandling Japanese black pine, the approach changes depending on the condition of the tree. Decandling, needle thinning, branch building using sacrifice branches, and the misting of foliage and cultivation needed after decandling. Please enjoy this look at the thinking behind decandling, and how it helps guide Japanese black pine bonsai toward a more refined form.
