真柏盆栽を作る皮剥きの技 ～舎利と水吸いが生む樹の表情～

This time on WABI CHANNEL, we introduce the process of stripping bark to create shari on Shimpaku juniper bonsai. From June to around September, when the tree is taking up plenty of water and the bark becomes easier to remove, this is an important seasonal technique for Shimpaku. Through a hands-on demonstration by Mr. Moriyama, we follow how field-grown Shimpaku material begins to reveal the character of shari and live veins, taking its first step toward becoming a medium-sized bonsai. The video explains how to read the live veins that carry water, how to decide which areas to strip for shari, and how the tree is pruned and wired after the bark-stripping work.
