Bala Lake Railway Steam Gala 2025

Bala Lake Railway August Steam Gala Saturday 23rd August 2025 2025's gala at Bala showcased three of the lines operational locomotives, joined by three visiting engines, with five of the six locomotives having worked in the historic Dinorwic Quarry. Recently restored Bagnall locomotive ‘Sybil’ from the West Lancashire Railway, was joined by the Quarry Hunslet ‘Velinheli/Felinheli’ from the Ffestiniog Railway. This marks the first time these two locomotives have been seen together in Wales since James Evans purchased both from the Dinorwic Quarry before it closed in 1968. In addition vertical boiler steam locomotive 'Chaloner' built in 1877 at De Winton's Union Works in Caernarfon also visited and is seen on demonstration slate trains along with double heading on passenger trains. Resident Quarry Hunslets Holy War, Alice and Maid Marian made up the operaitonal locomotives operating between Llanuwchlyn, Llangower and Bala Lake Halt.
