ZAPAL, la memoria de una fotografía

The gaze explores the details of a photograph, taken in 1937 in Zapal de Barbate (Cádiz), which features six women, four boys, and three girls. One of the women, María "La Ratona," describes life in the shantytown of a fishing village that was a destination for migrants, in the context of the Civil War, repression, and the enrichment of the local oligarchy with the rise of purse seine fishing and tuna trap fishing. ZAPAL proposes a reflection on the underworld of urban outskirts and forced displacement due to precariousness and war.
