The Crimean War… As It REALLY Looked 170 Years Ago
For the first time in history, war was captured through the lens of a camera. In 1855, photographer Roger Fenton traveled to the Crimean Peninsula to document one of the most brutal conflicts of the 19th century. Armed with a wagon full of fragile photographic equipment, he captured haunting images of British soldiers, battlefield landscapes, military camps, officers, generals, and the everyday reality of life during the Crimean War.
