Prenzlauer Berg nach der Wende 1991 | Sanierungsfall 🚧

What did Prenzlauer Berg look like immediately after German reunification? These excerpts from a 1991 report show a district in transition: dilapidated old buildings, run-down backyards, vacant apartments, and a population caught between hope and anxiety. Over 145,000 people lived in the densely populated Prenzlauer Berg district at that time. Thousands of apartments were considered to be in dire need of renovation. While politicians and business leaders debated the district's future, many residents feared rising rents and displacement from their neighborhood. Among the streets shown are Dunckerstrasse, Husemannstrasse, and Schliemannstrasse. Note: Some of the original footage has been set to music.
