内藤鳴雪 武士から官僚、そして俳人へ
Born at the end of the Edo period, a man lived as a samurai and a Meiji government bureaucrat. His name was Naito Meisetsu. He took up haiku poetry at the age of 46. He was a late bloomer, beginning his career as a disciple of Masaoka Shiki at his recommendation. "How cold the night is as the forest fire reflects on the lake." "A goldfish in the tea bowl I received." "A strong morning breeze blows through the arrow wheel, the banner." -- His many famous poems reflect a gaze that is quiet, witty, and full of humanity. At times dignified, at other times clumsy and affable. After Shiki's death, he continued to keep the torch of new haiku alive as an elder in the haiku world. This video traces the story of Meisetsu's late-blooming passion and life for haiku through illustrations and narration. "It's never too late to start something" -- this way of life provides important insights for us living today. Please take a quiet moment to enjoy haiku and stories of life.
