You know those short, seven-second videos on the internet, with an emotional background song and a catchy phrase saying, "Have you ever stopped to think that nobody told you about this..."? Most of them just spout theological nonsense! But today I decided to separate some of these "reflective" videos that people post on Reels and TikTok to analyze in the light of God's Word. Let's see if the theologies they propose really make biblical sense! The first video raises a very common question: Is it true that the devil only acts in our lives if we give him an "opening"? We evaluate the life of Job (a righteous and upright man who was attacked by the devil) and Jesus' own temptation in the desert (who had no sin). The devil attacks those who have no openings! However, we discuss the real danger of a "spiritual opening": when the believer lowers his guard, stops praying, stops reading the Word, and sits in the company of mockers, he opens himself up to carnality and evil suggestions. The second video is a dangerous (Catholic-biased) discussion about Biblical Authority and Interpretation. The young man uses Matthew 23 to claim that we should "obey hypocritical leaders in matters of teaching" because the Church has the final authority. We refute this idea based on the principle of Sola Scriptura. The church has a duty to guard the message, but it is not above the Bible! The interpretation of the Word (Historical-Grammatical Method) is what protects us from corrupt leaders and heresies.
