1982 Falklands War Day by Day (PART 2/2) | Archive Footage Documentary

1982 Falklands War Day by Day | PART 2/2 A day-by-day account of the Falklands War, made using frontline combat footage filmed by news crews embedded with the British task force and political reporting from London, Buenos Aires and Washington. In early 1982, the Falkland Islands, a remote British territory in the South Atlantic, became the focal point of a long-standing dispute between Argentina and the United Kingdom. On 2 April 1982, Argentine forces invaded and occupied the Falkland Islands, claiming sovereignty over the territory known in Argentina as las Islas Malvinas. The British government, led by Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, condemned the invasion and swiftly assembled a naval task force to retake the islands. The conflict lasted 74 days, claimed 907 lives, and saw fierce battles at sea, in the air, and on land. Presented here is the second of two compilations covering the conflict and its aftermath. This second instalment covers events from the re-invasion of the islands by British forces on 21 May through to the surrender of Argentine forces on 14 June 1982. It ends with coverage of the memorial service held in memory of those who died in the conflict at St Paul's Cathedral on 26 July 1982. 0:03:59 - 21 May 1982: UK briefing by Sir John Nott 0:06:21 - 21 May 1982: On-scene reporting 0:15:27 - 23 May 1982: Air attack 0:17:19 - 23 May 1982: Falklands peace march 0:18:21 - 25 May 1982: Studio interview with Sir John Nott 0:27:24 - 26 May 1982: UK briefing by Sir John Nott 0:28:38 - 26 May 1982: PM Margaret Thatcher speech (Conservative Women’s Conference) 0:33:18 - 29 May 1982: Medical care, casualties, interview with Surgeon Cmdr Rick Jolly 0:38:57 - 30 May 1982: Logistics 0:42:01 - 31 May 1982: Casualties; Ajax Bay hospital, statement from Surgeon Cmdr Rick Jolly; prisoners, Goose Green, civilians 0:44:45 - 1 June 1982: Footage from Argentina, no voiceover; street interviews 0:46:11 - 1 June 1982: Medical facilities, statements from Surgeon Cmdr Rick Jolly 0:51:41 - 2 June 1982: Hospital ships in Montevideo, report by Brent Sadler 0:53:40 - 2 June 1982: Interview with PM Margaret Thatcher 1:07:05 - 3 June 1982: Survivors return to Argentina 1:08:49 - 4 June 1982: John Underwood (studio); Argentine materiel 1:10:42 - 6 June 1982: HMS Hydra, casualty ship, patient transfer in Montevideo 1:12:12 - 7 June 1982: Michael Nicholson audio report with British Landing Forces 1:16:34 - 8 June 1982: Sir Galahad and Sir Tristram, reported by Michael Nicholson at Fitzroy 1:31:46 - 9 June 1982: Meeting with President Ronald Reagan at No. 10 1:33:52 - 11 June 1982: 1:37:29 - 12 June 1982: Wireless Ridge/airlift by Royal Navy helicopters 1:40:10 - 12 June 1982: Argentine prisoners, 29 Battery 1:41:00 - 13 June 1982: Report on Mount Longdon, Harriet, Two Sisters, HMS Glamorgan; briefing from Major Bill Dawson (7th Gurkha Rifles) 1:48:01 - 13 June 1982: ITN Studio Report; HMS Glamorgan, Bluff Cove; briefing from Sir John Nott; Jeremy Hands near Port Stanley; casualties/prisoners in Montevideo 1:59:09 - 14 June 1982: Evening News; progress retaking Stanley; briefing from Sir John Nott; Jon Snow, Red Cross Zone; Kim Sabido audio report 2:06:10 - 14 June 1982: Major Bill Dawson announces white flag over Stanley; 2nd Paras in Stanley 2:11:04 - 14 June 1982: Mines/news of ceasefire 2:12:41 - 14 June 1982: News at Ten (Studio); white flags at Stanley/negotiations ongoing 2:24:37 - 15 June 1982: Cleaning up Stanley 2:28:14 - 15 June 1982: News at Ten: Audio from Maj-Gen Sir Jeremy Moore; reports from Jeremy Hands, Michael Nicholson, Glyn Mathias; statement from Michael Foot; Norman Rees; Geoffrey Archer 2:49:48 - 16 June 1982: Prisoners; Thanksgiving Service at Stanley Cathedral with 2 Para; speech from Padre David Cooper 2:58:23 - 17 June 1982: Repairing airport; cleaning Stanley; interviews; fires; civilian funerals 3:04:09 - 19 June 1982: Last prisoners leave by boat; report by Michael Nicholson, Port Stanley 3:05:39 - 25 June 1982: Interview with Maj-Gen Sir John Jeremy Moore 3:14:07 - 26 June 1982: Remembrance service with Paras and civilians 3:13:56 - 26 June 1982: Michael Nicholson’s observations on front-line reporting 3:17:50 - 26 July 1982: Remembrance service at St Paul’s Cathedral #Falklands #FalklandsWar #FalklandIslands #LasIslasMalvinas #Warfare #ModernWarfare #Arentina #Galtieri #Thatcher #Frontline #CombatFootage #History #MilitaryHistory #BritishArmy #RoyalMarines #Conflict #FalklandsWarCombatFootage To search the ITN Archive collection on Getty Images, follow the link below: https://www.gettyimages.co.uk/footage... 🎥 Subscribe to our YouTube channel (tap the bell icon and stay up to date with all the latest ITN Archive videos!) -    / @frontlinebyitn   🎥 Follow us on Twitter -   / itnarchive   🎥 Like us on Facebook -   / itnarchiveitnp   🎥 Check out our TikTok -   / itnarchive1955
