The Real Reason You're People-Pleasing | Wake Up Epic, June 12, 2026
The Real Reason You're People-Pleasing | Wake Up Epic, June 12, 2026 Let's explore the real reason you are people-pleasing. Not the reason I could tell you, but the deep reason that only you can know. It is incredibly easy to just think, Oh, I people-please because I want people to like me. Because that sounds good enough, most people stop there and never find out the root cause. But when you look closer without shame, you can find the actual truth. For me, it wasn’t about being liked, it was that I wanted them to think that I get it. Finding that truth opens up a lot of change in a very short amount of time. In this session, we step away from the screen, land in our own space, and use movement to uncover what that real reason is for you. 📌 Video Chapters & Timestamps 0:00 – Introduction: The Morning Bounce Habit Bouncing out the frame. Letting your feet go wide and arms go wide while allowing your shoulders to move to wake up the system. 1:56 – The Setup: Stepping Into Personal Space Stepping away from the screen to land. Taking deep breaths to build physical sensitivity so you can feel your state without collapsing. 2:44 – Engagement Test: Modeling the Social Space Taking a step forward and bringing your arms out to simulate being with others, performing, or handling a specific relationship line. 3:26 – Tracking the Social Residue Stepping back into your own space. Letting your hands move awkwardly to express whatever physical tension or residue was left over from the interaction. 4:18 – The Inquiry: What Do You Need Out There? Coming back out to explore the compulsion. Tracking whether you are chasing likes, trying to prove your worth, or needing people to think you are awesome. 4:46 – Clearing the Attachment Hook Stepping back to let go of everyone. Checking your frame for lingering guilt, heaviness, burdens, or expectations. 5:49 – Facing the Compulsion Stepping out one last time to intentionally track the part of the interaction that doesn't feel good, confronting the raw effort of performance. 7:12 – The Truth Flip: Breaking the Script Stating It’s not that I need them to like me, it’s that... and letting the real truth surface before stepping back to clear your hands and unattach. 7:53 – Periphery Coordination Challenge (Left Side) Circling your wrists, ankles, and hips to build complexity at the edge of your structure until you actively lose your balance. 8:28 – Periphery Coordination Challenge (Right Side) Re-centering and switching sides. Moving the hands, foot, and hip together to practice integrating your system under challenging constraints. 9:04 – Memory Retrieval: The Wrong Ladder Regaining your balance and finding stability. Bringing to mind a specific memory of a social interaction or career path that you built for the wrong reasons. 9:35 – Ocular Processing: Clearing the Memory Holding the stable posture and looking around the room using only your eyes to settle your nervous system while processing the memory. 10:10 – Final Shake: Purposeful Connection Shaking out the head and body. Transitioning out of default habits so you can choose to delight people and share your gifts completely on purpose. 🧠 What We're Exploring Today The Shield Against Truth: Shame is the toughest part of self-inquiry. If you hold shame about why you people-please, you will hide the truth from yourself, which keeps the automatic habit running in the background. Dropping the judgment lets you look at your habits honestly so you can actually update them. Processing the Residue: When you interact with people from a place of obligation, you leave the interaction with a literal physical residue. Stepping back into your own space and letting your body move in weird, unscripted ways lets your nervous system express that truth and clear out the burden. Losing Balance to Find Stability: Forcing your body to move with high complexity at the periphery until you lose your balance twice serves a clear purpose. It breaks up rigid mental loops and teaches your brain that a wobble isn't a permanent failure, it is just a physical cue to regain your footing and center your weight.
