Loaded Unit Gypsum Train Heads Up the Old SP West Valley Line!

Every once in a while, a Union Pacific loaded unit gypsum train makes an appearance here in Davis, CA. The train originates from Gerlach, NV and travels west as a loaded train under the symbol OEGNA. When it gets to Davis, the UP crew hops off and the local shortline, California Northern, crew takes over. The train then runs up the old Southern Pacific West Valley line, which is now the CFNR West Valley Sub. It travels north about 85 miles to Artois and Hamilton City up near Chico, CA. The train gets unloaded there and then travels back south as empties and then back to Gerlach, NV under the symbol ONAEG. This was a very fun chase with an amazing crew and we all had tons of fun. Especially since the UP dash 9, UP 9829 now rebuilt to a C44AC, got to lead for a majority of the trip. It had an amazing K5LA horn, too. We chased the train to Maxwell where we then called it a day. Please enjoy the chase! Thanks for watching! 👍🏻 © All rights reserved to Central Valley Railfan 8311
