The rise in femicide cases in Brazil has generated great concern. In 2025, almost 1,600 women were killed simply for being women. In the first six months of this year, there have already been 741 victims murdered by partners or ex-partners. Among the stories emerging from this scenario is that of Jhenipher Sabriny Oliveira, from Minas Gerais. She survived a brutal femicide attempt committed by her then-husband, Pablo Henrique de Oliveira Rodrigues, in Belo Horizonte (MG). After nine years in a troubled marriage, she was threatened with a knife inside her own apartment. Desperate to save her life during a violent attack by her aggressor, Jhenipher jumped from the window of the second floor of the building where she lived, a fall of approximately seven meters, suffering multiple fractures upon hitting the ground. Her ex-husband tried to cover up the crime by claiming to neighbors that she had tripped and fallen. Pablo put the woman in the car, but the journey didn't go towards the hospital for fear of being reported. Upon seeing a police car, Jhenipher showed her injured wrist, and the man was forced to stop. For the first 12 days of her hospitalization, Pablo stayed by her side and kept her incommunicado, preventing her from telling the truth to her family. Despite her serious injuries and under constant surveillance by her abuser, Jhenipher managed to call for help after finally accessing her cell phone. Pablo was arrested but released after serving only part of his initial sentence. He is currently considered a fugitive by the Brazilian justice system. In a statement, Pablo Henrique de Oliveira Rodrigues' defense said that an appeal has already been filed, requesting the annulment of the trial.
