The Austrian Pension Insurance Institution (PVA) justified the rejection by stating that the prosthesis was not absolutely necessary for performing his specific job. Ombudsman Bernhard Achitz publicly criticized this decision and demanded a new review by the social insurance providers – which ultimately resulted in approval.
