Ian Interviews brother of missing businessman Kelvin Samaroo

The search for missing San Fernando businessman Kelvin Samaroo has intensified as relatives reveal new details surrounding his disappearance. Samaroo, 52, who operates a stationery and document-processing business along Cipero Street, San Fernando, has not been seen since Saturday, June 20. His Nissan Almera was later discovered abandoned along Lagoon Road, Barrackpore. Speaking during an interview, Samaroo's brother, Sheldon Samaroo, said the last time he saw Kelvin was around 9 p.m. on Friday while both men were travelling along Esmeralda Main Road. According to Sheldon, he was heading to Marabella to drop off his wife when he noticed Kelvin driving behind him. "As I pulled off from my home, my brother's vehicle was behind me. We drove along the same route until I turned onto Battoo Avenue in Marabella. He continued along Union Road towards the Marabella Police Station area. That was the last time I saw him," he said. Family members became concerned the following day when Kelvin failed to attend a regular family gathering and prayers at his sister's temple. "When he didn't show up, we started calling his phone, but we couldn't get him. That's when we realised something was wrong," Sheldon said. According to relatives, GPS data later showed Samaroo's vehicle at a home for the aged in La Fortune, La Romaine, before it was eventually located abandoned in Barrackpore. The vehicle was reportedly remotely disabled after concerns grew over his disappearance. Sheldon also disclosed that his brother had raised concerns about personal safety days before he vanished. He claimed that approximately three to four days before Kelvin disappeared, a man believed to be of Venezuelan nationality was seen outside his brother's Esmeralda home around midnight taking photographs of the property. According to him, Kelvin claimed his name had been used without his knowledge in transactions involving multiple vehicles, a matter that was reportedly being investigated by the Criminal Investigations Department. Sheldon further stated that his brother received a phone call shortly after leaving the family gathering on Friday night and later indicated he was going to meet someone. Based on information gathered by relatives, the family believes Kelvin may have travelled to the Vistabella area before his disappearance. He described Kelvin as a hardworking and helpful individual who was well known for assisting people with visa applications, passport-related matters and other document-processing services. "He helps a lot of people. Everybody has good things to say about him. I don't know why this happened," he said.
