Missing businessman told friend he was going to meet someone before vanishing
New details have emerged in the disappearance of San Fernando businessman Kelvin Samaroo, 52, after a close friend revealed that Samaroo left home on the night he vanished, saying he was going to meet someone. Samaroo, who owns a stationery and document-processing business along Cipero Street, San Fernando, has been missing since Saturday, June 20. His Nissan Almera was later found abandoned along Lagoon Road, Barrackpore, after concerns were raised about his whereabouts. Speaking during an interview, Leonardo Rafael, a Venezuelan national and close friend of Samaroo, said he was among the last people to see him before he disappeared. According to Leo, Samaroo returned home on Friday evening after picking him up in Williamsville and appeared to be in good spirits. "He was laughing and smiling. Everything seemed normal," Leo said. However, he recalled becoming curious when Samaroo began preparing to leave again later that night. "He took a shower and was getting ready to go out. I asked him where he was going, but he didn't tell me. He only said he had to meet somebody," Leo stated. Leo also said Samaroo left the house at approximately 8:30 p.m., adding that it was unusual for him not to explain where he was heading. "The thing that surprised me is that he didn't tell me where he was going. That wasn't like him," he said. The friend also claimed he later learned that Samaroo intended to meet an individual somewhere in the Vistabella area, although he was unable to provide an exact location. According to Leonardo, another man identified only as "Jeremy" allegedly told him that Samaroo had mentioned plans to meet someone known as "Remy" or a similarly sounding name on the night he vanished. He described Samaroo as a generous and caring individual who often assisted people with visa applications, passport services and other document-processing matters. "For me, he was like family. He helped me a lot. Everybody has good things to say about him," Leo said. Kelvin is described as being of East Indian descent, brown in complexion, approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall, medium built, with short greying hair and brown eyes. He also has a distinctive vitiligo mark over his left eye and psoriasis scars on both elbows.
