Stephen talks about the reintroduction of Western Electric's 4165 Horn Loudspeaker System to the audiophile community. The 4165 system is manufactured by G.I.P. Laboratory in Japan and imported to the U.S. It is a horn system originally made for use in small theaters in the 1930s. Stephen describes the care and the attention to detail given to every facet of this system by G.I.P. Laboratory engineers to make it as faithful to the original Western Electric system as possible. The results speak for themselves. The 12" field coil driver covers 50Hz to 5KHz and mounted in a front loaded conical horn. The back is completely open, similar to the Shearer Horn. When driven by the matching electronics, the sound of this system is completely coherent. Tom and I both agree somewhat with Ken Micallef of Stereophile (below). We think its the top 3 of not the top sounding room at the show. Every instrument we heard sounded realistic and correctly sized. You wanted to just sit and listen. It was addictive. Normally, one would have to travel to International HiFi Show in Munich, Germany to experience replica's of Western Electric horn systems. We are bless to have G.I.P. Laboratory at the show and grateful for TrueSource Audio for setting the system up at AXPONA 2025. It was an ear and eye opener for us. If you have the chance to experience this system, do it. If you can afford it, buy it. It was like going back to the Genesis of HiFi. The following excerpt is taken from Stereophile magazine's November 12, 2024 Capital Audio Fest Report by Ken Micallef, with some deletions. https://www.stereophile.com/content/t... "True Source Audio Distributors debuted the massive G.I.P. Laboratory 4165 field coil horn-loaded loudspeakers at CAF, featuring the Japanese company’s replicas of the original Western Electric 4165 driver. The ..... G.I.P. 4165 Radiata pine cabinets filled nearly half of the small Hilton room. G.I.P.’s TW 38 tweeter sat atop the large cabinets.......... The G.I.P. 4165 system—a 12” full-range driver running at 8 ohms, 105dB sensitivity.......... The sound in this room delivered everything the product list promised: an incredibly fast, enveloping, and immersive experience marked by glistening transients and a warm character. Images were large and refined, bass notes plump and extended. ....... A special experience. One of my top five rooms at CAF 2024." If you enjoy this video. The Chicago Horn Loudspeaker Guys are two retired regular guys who love music, stereos, and audio reproduced by horns! The purpose of our YouTube channel is to share historic and current information of Horn Loudspeaker technology with music lovers of all ages. Our channel features interviews with owners/enthusiasts of Horn Loudspeaker Systems in the Chicagoland area as well as towns and cities from the surrounding States (Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, Iowa.). To understand their history, the music priorities and to glean from them knowledge on getting the best possible sound from their systems. We also collect information from online forums and if possible, conduct experiments to validate our recommendations. We share the knowledge we gain with our viewers in an honest, straight forward and no-non sense manner (and hopefully in an entertaining way). Be forewarn, we do tend to go off topic at times. We focus on classic designs from Altec, Electro-Voice, JBL, Klipsch, as well as more contemporary designs from Bruce Edgar, Tom Danley, Classic Audio Speakers, VOLTI Audio, G.I.P., AMPSANDSOUNDS, as well as many others. We also feature unique DIY efforts that we deemed interesting for our viewers. We hope the information we share on our channel is useful to audio hobbyists and encourage new comers to embrace horn loaded loudspeakers, and ultimately include them as an integral part of the sound system(s). #hornspeakers #hifi #stereo #VintageAudio #StereoGear #hornspeakers #jbl #altec #klipsch #audiophile #highendaudio #tubeamplifier #giplaboratory
