TRIBUN-TIMUR.COM, MAKASSAR - The Muslim University of Indonesia (UMI) has reaffirmed its commitment to producing a generation that is knowledgeable, scientifically sound, has noble character, and is globally competitive. This commitment was realized through the Grand Final of the 2026 UMI Islamic Campus Student Ambassador Selection, which took place in the Senate Meeting Hall, 9th Floor of the UMI Tower, Jl. Urip Sumoharjo, Panakkukang District, Makassar, on Wednesday (July 15, 2026). This annual event, led by the UMI Character Development & Da'wah Unit (PKD), is the culmination of a series of rigorous selection processes at the faculty level. From this competitive process, 22 top finalists were selected to compete in the grand final, competing for the honorary title of representing the face of an Islamic campus. The event was officially opened by the Rector of UMI, Prof. Dr. H. Hambali Thalib. Also in attendance were the Vice Rectors, Deans, Vice Dean IV for Da'wah & Islamic Campus, and the Head of the UMI PKD Technical Implementation Unit (UPT PKD) and his staff. In his remarks, Prof. Hambali stated that the ambassador selection was not merely a talent showcase, but also a strategic tool for mapping and enhancing students' multidimensional potential. He explained that the assessment in this event focused not only on academic aspects but also on comprehensive non-academic potential. "From skills and language skills to commitment to UMI. This combination of aspects has double the value in promoting UMI's reputation in the community," he said. The Professor of Criminal Law at UMI also expressed his high appreciation to all the finalists, who represented the best representatives from their respective faculties and had gone through a rigorous selection process. "My dear children, all of you standing here are the face of UMI's future. Use this precious moment to demonstrate your best capabilities, that you are truly worthy of the title of UMI Islamic Campus Ambassador," said Prof. Hambali. "You are the vanguard who will uphold and maintain UMI's noble image at the regional, national, and international levels," he continued. Meanwhile, the Head of the UMI PKD Unit, Dr. H. Andi Darmawansyah, in his report explained that this event was designed as a development platform to produce agents of change who are adaptive to current developments, possess integrity, leadership, and possess a strong social conscience grounded in Islamic values. He also hoped that this event would provide participants with valuable experience in personal development. "To the future winners, we remind you that the title of UMI Islamic Campus Student Ambassador is not merely a crown or a privilege," said Andi Darmawansyah. For him, being a UMI Islamic Campus Student Ambassador is a great responsibility and moral responsibility to serve as role models, inspirations, and drivers of various student programs that benefit the academic community and the wider community. Through the 2026 UMI Islamic Campus Student Ambassador Selection, UMI is optimistic about producing the best ambassadors who are resilient, virtuous, professional, and ready to carry the good name of their alma mater on the world stage while remaining steadfast in upholding the banner of Islam. To ensure that the assessment is objective, professional, and comprehensive, the Grand Final features a panel of judges who are competent in their fields. The finalists were asked to present their material or breakthroughs to the panel of judges one by one. The assessment of the finalists took place in the Senate Room on the 9th floor of the UMI Tower. The question-and-answer session regarding the material or ideas presented by the finalists was conducted in English.
