Nipah Sports Week is an annual program of Nipah Park, held since 2022 as a form of appreciation for sports communities and clubs. Nipah Park is a shopping center (mall) part of the Kalla Group located on Jalan Urip Sumoharjo, Makassar, South Sulawesi (Sulsel). The 2026 Nipah Sports Week, featuring 25 sports categories, consists of 17 competitions and 8 exhibition events, and will be held over three days, Friday-Sunday (July 17-19, 2026). Interestingly, the medals awarded to the winners will not be made from conventional materials. Instead, the gold, silver, and bronze medals are made from recycled plastic bottle caps. The waste was collected from Nipah Park tenants and visitors over the past three months. A total of 450 medals were produced in collaboration with Rasapasar, an environmental group. Each medal was made using approximately 55 grams of recycled plastic, the equivalent of approximately 58 plastic bottle caps. This means that to make 450 medals, approximately 24,750 grams, or 24.75 kg, would be needed. Kalla Property's Sales & Marketing General Manager, Rasmila Sari Suaib, said the collaboration with Rasapasar was intended to create something impactful. This aligns with Nipah Park's commitment to continuously creating more environmentally responsible public spaces. "This is a form of our concern for the surrounding environment," said Mila, as she is familiarly known, during a press conference at Nipah Park on Jalan Urip Sumoharjo, Makassar, South Sulawesi, Friday (July 17, 2026). This initiative by Nipah Park is part of the "Game On, Waste Gone" campaign. Through this campaign, Mila said, Nipah Park wants to demonstrate that a sporting event is not just about competition and entertainment. But also about having a positive impact on the environment by reusing waste that still has value. Reza Enem, Creative Director of Rasapasar, explained that the concept behind the Nipah Park collaboration is "Bekas Pakai Alih Fungsi" (Used, Used, and Used to Transform Functions). This involves transforming various materials considered to have no value into new, functional products. Through this collaboration, they want to develop not just products made from recycled materials, but also a new perspective on these materials. "We want to take simpler steps and use things around us to make them more functional," Reza said. 25 Sports Disciplines The 2026 Nipah Sports Week will feature 25 sports categories, consisting of 17 competitions and 8 exhibitions. From team sports, martial arts, racket sports, e-sports, recreational sports, to various fitness classes open to people of all ages. The 17 competitions include 3x3 basketball, karate, taekwondo, archery, fencing, swimming, tennis, badminton, table tennis, padel, e-sports, breakdancing, pushbike, and radio-controlled (RC) riding. The eight sports exhibitions include yoga, Zumba, Pound Fit, cycling, inline skating, rollerblading, skateboarding, and lion dance.
