In this episode, we journey from the Nordic realm of Sweden to Narvik, Norway, the northernmost point accessible by European railways. It's a long voyage, spanning over 12 hours from Stockholm. While this destination draws many visitors in the summer, we dared to explore it during the off-season winter. The reason why others avoid this time of year soon became clear to us. The Nordic winter is not just about the cold; the adverse weather and extremely short daylight hours mean there's little to enjoy from the train window views. The overnight train featured in this video departs from Stockholm, bound for Luleå/Narvik. Leaving the 'Venice of the North', Stockholm, our train soon enters a landscape of snow. Our journey began in November, and as we bid farewell to the capital, nightfall quickly set in, enveloping the surroundings in darkness, leaving us with scarce scenery to showcase. Therefore, we decided to feature Sweden's day trains – the express and high-speed services that shine during the daylight hours. The night train itself is a robust, traditional affair, lined with classic carriages that have become a rare sight nowadays. Despite their age, the interiors are well-maintained, offering a comfortable night's travel. Taking advantage of the rare opportunity to ride a sleeper train, we splurged on a first-class sleeper with a shower, and we'll share detailed insights into the cabin experience.
